Academic Success

Academic Success

We know that bright futures start with a solid education. At the Boy & Girls Club of the Alma Area we teach kids and teens that with hard work and dedication, they can reach their goals in school and beyond.  Encouragement combined with quality programming makes our after school and summer programs a force for academic success.

Project Learn: reinforces the academic enrichment and school engagement of young people during the time they spend at the Club.

Power Hour: provides Club members with after-school homework help and tutoring. Power Hour encourages Club members of every age to become self-directed learners.

Summer Brain Gain: is comprised of one-week modules with fun, themed activities for elementary school, middle school and high school students that are aligned with common core anchor standards. This program is aimed at reducing summer learning loss.

DIY STEM: is a hands-on, activity-based STEM curriculum which connects youth to science themes they encounter regularly.

CareerLaunch: prepares teens for the world of careers and work. Through CareerLaunch, Club teens 13-18 years old embark on a journey to explore possible vocations, make sound educational decisions and find success in the world of work.

Junior Staff: is a small-group program that is both practical and user friendly. It assists Club members ages 13 to 18 in exploring a career in youth or human services, particularly Boys & Girls Club work.

Character and Citizenship

Healthy Lifestyles

Arkansas is currently rated 46th among the states in overall child health. We understand that poor health in childhood impacts other critical aspects of a child’s life. Our programs focus on helping kids eat a more balanced diet, become more physically fit, and engage in healthy relationships.  We hope by instilling healthy habits, our members will live healthier and happier lives.

Triple Play: is a comprehensive health and wellness program. It strives to improve the overall health of Club members ages 6-18 by increasing daily physical activity, teaching them about good nutrition and helping them develop healthy relationships.

Passport to Manhood: teaches responsibility to boys ages 11 to 14 with sessions that focus on a specific aspect of character and manhood through highly interactive activities.

SMART Girls: provides health, fitness, prevention/education and self-esteem enhancement for girls ages 8 to 17.

Character & Citizenship

Giving back to the community is an integral part of the Boys & Girls Club of the Alma Area.   We empower and equip our kids and teens with the necessary resources to become young leaders.  We teach them there is power in leadership and civic engagement. We teach them about potential career paths and help them develop skills related to interviewing and public speaking.

Keystone: This unique program provides leadership development opportunities for youth, ages 14-18, to participate in activities, both in and out of the Club, in three focus areas: academic success, career preparation and community service. With the guidance of an adult advisor, Keystone Clubs aim to positively impact teens, their Club and local communities.

Torch Club:  focuses on small-group leadership and service clubs for boys and girls ages 11 to 13. A Torch Club is a powerful vehicle that helps Club staff meet the special character development needs of younger adolescents at a critical stage in their life.

Youth of the Year: This program allows our Club to recognition outstanding members. It is our signature effort to foster a new generation of leaders, fully prepared to live and lead in a diverse, global and integrated world economy.
